Ah, my lovely Maid of Honor, Miss Liana Lehman. She is a hoot, and that is why I love her so much. We are two gals cut from the same cloth, just different dye lots. Where I am more vintage and peaches and taupes and she is more contemporary and bright tropical colors.
She is getting married in April to a great guy named Mike (who she refers to as Mikey.)
This is them in Santorini July 2007 - they make such a cute couple.
She is the friend who introduced me to the Polyvore website!
Just to illustrate how different our taste our - here is her board:
and here is one of mine:
Anyway...........I could go on and on why there are so many reasons why I just love her, I wanted to share one!
She is going to head up the efforts to make my fake cake for the wedding reception. I priced out many bakers in my area and while I truly appreciate the art of cake making, I can't fit into my budget! I mean - the average was like $4.25 a slice - that would be $531 for a CAKE! In come Miss Liana - the DIY wonder! She has been practicing and planning for the bestest fakest cake there was! She made a beautful one for my wedding shower and once I get the photos from her I will share - it was a real cake with three different layers and my favorite flower adorning it (Pink Gerber Daisys!)
We are going to just have a simple sheet cake in the back for the cater to cut and pass and make a small section of the fake cake that will allow us to realisticly cut into it during the cake cutting. I estimate our cake will cost about $200 tops! (Break down - $100 for the fake cake and $100 for the real yummy publix sheet cake.)
She sent me this last night!
Liana e-mailed "That is something amazing, hu?? If only I had the faintest idea how that's done..."
I have no doubt that her creation will be just as if not more beautiful!

"...from different DYE lots..." LOL LOVE the analogy! Love u too!!
Seriously how amazing would it be if we could do that on our cake? If only I could draw... I guess that's why I'm a photographer...
I also can't justify the high price of wedding cakes. I wanted a grand cake that made a classy statement but refused to pay the outrageous cost. So I went the same route that you're taking. I hired a couture cake baker to do a fake cake...just the bottom layer {that we will cut into} will be real and in the kitchen will be sheet cake!
